Last week, our team headed to Minneapolis, Minnesota for EE CONF 2019 to dive into all things ExpressionEngine. TJ Draper and Kyle Cotter represented Happy Cog with two strong presentations, while our Director of Engineering Operations, Jeremy Gimbel led a roundtable discussion on various audience submitted questions.

Kyle Cotter: Empowering Content Editors: 7 Principles for Improving Author Experience
Our Author Experience Lead, Kyle continued to share his knowledge of improving the author experience with a talk that included various principles, tips, CP enhancements, and examples displaying how the author experience should inform the entire project from the beginning.
Kyle explained that while diving into the ExpressionEngine control panel and template language is fun, it shouldn’t be the first thing you do. He took a step back from that approach and outlined principles teams can apply to their projects to take their ExpressionEngine sites to the next level.

TJ Draper: Custom App Development with EE
TJ, a Developer at Happy Cog, centered his presentation around custom app development in ExpressionEngine. TJ walked the audience through how to combine composer with custom PHP development to fill the requirements of almost any project. He also explained why and how to utilize ExpressionEngine for a custom app.

As one of the community organizers of EECONF and Happy Cog’s own Director of Engineering Operations, Jeremy stepped in to lead a roundtable discussion to address questions submitted by the audience.
A number of questions centered around the future of ExpressionEngine and its community in light of the growing market of other content management systems. Panelists represented agencies that use ExpressionEngine as well as companies who provided supporting tools and services for the platform. Overall, the response was positive. The community remains committed to the platform and continuing to use and grow it.
